Leadership Miami’s Team 2 – Miami Beat – is raising funds to build a Sensory Room at Miami International Airport!

We are pleased to announce that we will be building a Multi-sensory Room at MIA to benefit families traveling with children who suffer from developmental disabilities, such as autism. MIA will be just the third airport in the country with these facilities.

We’re partnering with The Arc of the United States and the UM-NSU Center for Autism and Related Disabilities for the clinical/therapeutic aspects of the facility. We’re partnering with YOU to get it finished.

If you are in the Miami area, you are invited to a Shark Tank-style event, Connecting for a Cause, on March 6, 2018, presented by the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce.
https://www.facebook.com/events/966320223532646/

At this time, we need donations to kick-start our purchase of therapy items/inventory for the room. Donations can be made at the following link by scrolling down and clicking on Leadership Miami Team 2’s “Donate” button: http://www.southfloridaprogressfoundation.org/make-a-donat…/

We will be seeking in-kind donations of building supplies, design/artistic talent, and skilled trades in the near future. Feel free to inbox me if you have any questions about the project or how else you can get involved.

Twits plus 43.

So I made a bet…

If you’ve read my blog, you know what is coming. It’s time for a Twitter count!

A few months ago, I decided time spent coming up with ways to enthrall my virtual followers with stories of my day and my ideas is just too much responsibility. My elaborate plan to gain Twitter followers consisted of this one mantra – DO NOTHING.

Thus, this number represents my total lack of effort at actually forming a Twitter “presence”.

Here’s how it’s going:

As of 2/9/16, the number of Followers I have on Twitter has grown from 426 to 469.

In six months – that’s right – SIX MONTHS – I have gained 43 Followers.

That is Pretty. Darn. Good. For doing NOTHING.

Now, some would say – wow, that really SUCKS! That is sad, sad, SAD. An average of 7.1 new people per month? How can this be good? Shouldn’t you be trying to reach thousands?

Here’s why. People HAVE found my blog and chosen to hit that Follow button based upon content alone. No gimmicks. No effort, chemicals or preservatives added.

My idea was to sit back and see how many new Twitter followers I would gain NATURALLY.

Therefore – SUCCESS!

It’s time to focus on what I did RIGHT that convinced 43 NEW PEOPLE to choose to follow my silly little tweets.

And to do that, I’m giving myself a homework assignment.  I will look up 10 articles on how to naturally increase my Twitter presence, and share my findings. Wish me luck!

Please feel free to COMMENT, as I’m open to suggestions and thoughts.

Back and Ready to Rock.

I’ve been neglecting my blog for quite some time – “real life” can really interfere with my social media and internet addiction.

It’s definitely time for me to start expressing myself here once again. This tiny corner where I share my thoughts helps put a lot of issues into perspective, and it is simply a comfortable place to VENT sometimes.

There are so many interesting topics surrounding our daily lives. We are living history every day – AMAZING, SCARY, INFURIATING, FUN, CRAZY – you name it, it’s out there and we are all a part of the story.

Some of the topics that interest me are charities and causes, Anti-Bullying, the Arts, social change, mental health awareness, current events, and whatever else may catch my attention (IFLS, after all).

I WELCOME COMMENTS – keeps it interesting. I’m all for open discourse. By no means do I think everyone will share my opinion, but I do hope that people will engage and upgrade the conversation by commenting on a post, or even emailing me directly! We are always learning and growing 🙂

If you want my take on a specific subject, feel free to hit me up! Not sure whether I will have anything of value to say on the subject, but I will try my best.

Fair Warning – I’ve been collecting graphics and memes for as long as I can remember (psp tubes anyone?), and I plan to upload my favorites as often as possible. I also have the tendency to share random photos of my dogs (hey, everyone has their quirks – no apologies).

GERONIMO. That is all.

COME CELEBRATE FOR A GREAT CAUSE!!!

See Friendship

NOTE: If you have no clue about this feature on FaceBook, read this article first. Or this one.

Sickest thing about Facebook – the “See Friendship” feature.

It’s like your PAST poking you in the EYE with a STICK!

It shows you (and possibly anyone who cares to look, not too sure) the entire FB friendship between yourself and another person – which could be cool – EXCEPT:

What if you no longer TALK to that person?

Or you just had a bad break-up (stalk(ed) much?)

UGH!

Of course (surprise, surprise) I found it by clicking ‘See Friendship’ while mooning over my “on-break” other half’s page. I admit it.

However, I will NOT be visiting again – how sad is it to look at the timeline of a past relationship? Or one that is not so stable at the moment?

Having a graphical reminder of every FB interaction we ever had, including photos, messages – EVERYTHING!

I’m talking photos we’re both tagged in, wall posts and comments between us, events we both RSVP’d to, and our mutual friends and Likes.

Curiosity killed the cat – well, I feel as though I just took that cat and watched as it was born; as it frolicked and played as a kitten; as it grew older and more distant; and then…ended. Nothing.

“See Friendship” = Curiosity = Dead Cat.

Why not just tattoo this onto my forehead:

Yup, right here.

Yup. This girl. Right here.

Yeah, so – “See Friendship” feature? Go take a hike. Without shoes. On rocky shores.

There is a cliff there BTW, just sayin’.

Daily Overview for January 04, 2013

Overview

Watch your tongue in the next few days. You might be tempted to say something to someone that would just end up backfiring. People are doing things that they shouldn’t be doing, but if you keep your desire to rant in check, you’ll be glad you did.

A Cause Worth Fighting For… Rett Syndrome Awareness

Rett Syndrome is a developmental disorder affecting little girls worldwide,

One (1) out of every 10,000 to 23,000 births.

It affects little girls of all racial and ethnic groups, and it is rarely seen in boys.

This syndrome has been misdiagnosed by many as autism or cerebral palsy.

Rett Syndrome is developmental disorder, not a degenerative disorder.

These girls will never have the ability speak.

FOR MORE DETAILED INFORMATION ON RETT’S SYNDROME,

HERE IS A FACT SHEET

from the National Institutes of Health.

God’s Innocent Angels Foundation was created in 2011 to raise awareness for children affected with Rett Syndrome.

G.I.A.’s Foundation’s mission is to create awareness and to open a center for children and families affected by this debilitating disorder.
To do this, they need your support on every level, not just financially, but by supporting the cause.
The foundation is 100% volunteer-based and no founder or director of the organization takes a salary or benefits in any way from the proceeds.
ALL FUNDS will be used to build the GIA Center for Children and Families affected with RETT Syndrome.

The organization was named after Teri Rio’s niece GIA, who has been affected by this disorder, she’s an angel of God.
