Hypocrisy

Hypocrites!!!!!

Using faith as a shield and a sword when their hospital needs funding (see article), yet when their doctors are responsible for the death of a woman and the 7 month old twins she was carrying that could have been saved, the hospital IMMEDIATELY throws their faith out the window and argues in court that fetuses are not people. Regardless of your stance on the status of life beginning at conception v. birth, the actions of this hospital show ME that money is more important than their own beliefs and their patients lives!

This is not a religious or political post. My views on both are private.

What this IS about is hypocrisy, and this should be called out if this was ANY hospital claiming to follow certain ideals – and then when they mess up they throw away those beliefs all to avoid the Monetary Damages from a wrongful death malpractice suit.

Relevant Sections of Article:

“The lead defendant in the case is Catholic Health Initiatives, the Englewood-based nonprofit that runs St. Thomas More Hospital as well as roughly 170 other health facilities in 17 states. Last year, the hospital chain reported national assets of $15 billion. The organization’s mission, according to its promotional literature, is to “nurture the healing ministry of the Church” and to be guided by “fidelity to the Gospel.” Toward those ends, Catholic Health facilities seek to follow the Ethical and Religious Directives of the Catholic Church authored by the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops. Those rules have stirred controversy for decades, mainly for forbidding non-natural birth control and abortions. “Catholic health care ministry witnesses to the sanctity of life ‘from the moment of conception until death,’” the directives state. “The Church’s defense of life encompasses the unborn.””

BUT

“when it came to mounting a defense in the Stodghill case, Catholic Health’s lawyers effectively turned the Church directives on their head. Catholic organizations have for decades fought to change federal and state laws that fail to protect “unborn persons,” and Catholic Health’s lawyers in this case had the chance to set precedent bolstering anti-abortion legal arguments. Instead, they are arguing state law protects doctors from liability concerning unborn fetuses on grounds that those fetuses are not persons with legal rights.”

“As Jason Langley, an attorney with Denver-based Kennedy Childs, argued in one of the briefs he filed for the defense, the court “should not overturn the long-standing rule in Colorado that the term ‘person,’ as is used in the Wrongful Death Act, encompasses only individuals born alive. Colorado state courts define ‘person’ under the Act to include only those born alive. Therefore Plaintiffs cannot maintain wrongful death claims based on two unborn fetuses.””

Scorpio – January 18, 2013

Stay out of trouble, and don’t look for it either. You may be feeling a little impish today, and you would like to have a little revenge on the people who get under your skin. You will most certainly get drawn into a drama of your own creation, however, so it’s best to be good.

See Friendship

NOTE: If you have no clue about this feature on FaceBook, read this article first. Or this one.

Sickest thing about Facebook – the “See Friendship” feature.

It’s like your PAST poking you in the EYE with a STICK!

It shows you (and possibly anyone who cares to look, not too sure) the entire FB friendship between yourself and another person – which could be cool – EXCEPT:

What if you no longer TALK to that person?

Or you just had a bad break-up (stalk(ed) much?)

UGH!

Of course (surprise, surprise) I found it by clicking ‘See Friendship’ while mooning over my “on-break” other half’s page. I admit it.

However, I will NOT be visiting again – how sad is it to look at the timeline of a past relationship? Or one that is not so stable at the moment?

Having a graphical reminder of every FB interaction we ever had, including photos, messages – EVERYTHING!

I’m talking photos we’re both tagged in, wall posts and comments between us, events we both RSVP’d to, and our mutual friends and Likes.

Curiosity killed the cat – well, I feel as though I just took that cat and watched as it was born; as it frolicked and played as a kitten; as it grew older and more distant; and then…ended. Nothing.

“See Friendship” = Curiosity = Dead Cat.

Why not just tattoo this onto my forehead:

Yup, right here.

Yup. This girl. Right here.

Yeah, so – “See Friendship” feature? Go take a hike. Without shoes. On rocky shores.

There is a cliff there BTW, just sayin’.

Music is What Life Sounds Like

In music the passions enjoy themselves.  – Friedrich Nietzsche

Music IS life

Music IS life

Day 9:

Sometimes, in this life, we need a song.

Whether it’s for helping us make decisions, sorting out our feelings, letting off steam, dancing in jammies or discovering something worthwhile, music is interwoven into our daily lives.
Music can dictate your path in life – your choice in friends, places to go, how you feel about yourself. Listen to up-beat music and feel energetic. Listen to a slow song and relax or just be.
I swear that 50% of my mind must be composed of song lyrics and melodies. Riffs and breaks and beats.

_____________________________________________

Studies have found that music improves mood, and I am very interested in the interplay between the two.  Clearly, music can change a person’s mood in few seconds, let her recall a certain past situation that happened to her clearly and can change her mental state.  Is it possible for people with mood disorders learn to self-regulate through their choice of song? If so, how?

The point here is not what IS, but what CAN be through music as a tool for knowing yourself, and possibly others.

My boyfriend recently posted a song and stated “Love the words to this song”. This was posted while we were having a rough patch.

Here’s the catch – what did he like about the song? At that moment? What part of the words hit him, made him take affirmative steps to go and post this video and point out that the lyrics mattered to him? Does this mean anything profound? Should I take note?

“I Will Follow You Into The Dark” by Death Cab for Cutie

Love of mine some day you will die
But I’ll be close behind
I’ll follow you into the dark
No blinding light or tunnels to gates of white
Just our hands clasped so tight
Waiting for the hint of a spark
If Heaven and Hell decide
That they both are satisfied
Illuminate the NOs on their vacancy signs
If there’s no one beside you
When your soul embarks
Then I’ll follow you into the dark
In Catholic school as vicious as Roman rule
I got my knuckles bruised by a lady in black
And I held my tongue as she told me
“Son fear is the heart of love”
So I never went back

If Heaven and Hell decide
That they both are satisfied
Illuminate the NOs on their vacancy signs

If there’s no one beside you
When your soul embarks
Then I’ll follow you into the dark

You and me have seen everything to see
From Bangkok to Calgary
And the soles of your shoes are all worn down
The time for sleep is now
It’s nothing to cry about
’cause we’ll hold each other soon
In the blackest of rooms

If Heaven and Hell decide
That they both are satisfied
Illuminate the No’s on their vacancy signs

If there’s no one beside you
When your soul embarks
Then I’ll follow you into the dark

Think too much

Scorpio:

You might feel distracted or unable to focus today, which could be annoying if you feel you need to do one thing and one thing only. However, if you let yourself find inspiration in a number of things, you can turn this into a positive. Just don’t expect your attention to be undivided!

Day 7:

Scorpio:

A heightened sensitivity or ability to see to the core of the situation will allow you to be a great help to friends and loved ones.

Make yourself available as a source of support, and they will be grateful to have an understanding and intuitive person to go to for assistance.

Back to the daily grind. Today we are dealing with a broken Dell (shock), a messy desk area (double shock) and not enough coffee.8d0bad3f1357b2ac98d86b1dad1a4bda
I have this issue where as soon as the work week is over, I log out of the virtual land of computers, and spend most of my weekend either sleeping or waking up.
Thus Days 5 and 6 were spent doing exactly that – procrastinating.

So – No post for YOU!

Soup Nazi was cool 🙂

Daily Overview for January 04, 2013

Overview

Watch your tongue in the next few days. You might be tempted to say something to someone that would just end up backfiring. People are doing things that they shouldn’t be doing, but if you keep your desire to rant in check, you’ll be glad you did.

J.Lo’s Stunt Double is a Man.

Day 3.

Thank you January 3, 2013 for bringing me this slightly entertaining news.

Yes, J.Lo’s stunt double is a man.

Ha. Hahaha. Ha.

Were it not for this picture, and THAT look from the body double, this day would continue its downward descent MUCH more swiftly.

2013 is starting out interesting already, on SO many levels.

In other news, really Astrology? Really?

Daily Overview for January 03, 2013

Overview

Don’t give your partner the silent treatment, and don’t hold back when you have something you would like to talk about.

Open communication is very important in any relationship, so talk it out! More will be resolved this way as opposed to holding it all inside and not giving your thoughts release.

Wow. FML. L8r.

Welcome to a New Day

2013.

Day 1.  OVER.

Day 2.  Shit just got real.

The plan:
1. Break out the Calendar
2. Update the Bucket List
3. FORGET THE PAST BECAUSE IT HAS PASSED.

But in case I’m not quite ready to forget the past, which judging from prior experience I never AM, here’s what Facebook believes are my best 20 moments of 2012.

Thanks for that Facebook. My best moments in 2012 consisted on being dressed as a goth circus-y chick at Halloween. Winning.

Apparently my best moments are those i make on my own – just a thought 😉

10 Lessons from Einstein

1. Follow Your Curiosity “I have no special talent. I am only passionately curious.”

2. Perseverance is Priceless “It’s not that I’m so smart; it’s just that I stay with problems longer.”

3. Focus on the Present “Any man who can drive safely while kissing a pretty girl is simply not giving the kiss the attention it deserves.”

4. The Imagination is Powerful “Imagination is everything. It is the preview of life’s coming attractions. Imagination is more important than knowledge.”

5. Make Mistakes “A person who never made a mistake never tried anything new.”

6. Live in the Moment “I never think of the future – it comes soon enough.”

7. Create Value “Strive not to be a success, but rather to be of value.”

8. Don’t be repetitive “Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.”

9. Knowledge Comes From Experience “Information is not knowledge. The only source of knowledge is experience.”

10. Learn the Rules and Then Play Better “You have to learn the rules of the game. And then you have to play better than anyone else.”
